“War Comes to the Mills”

June 15 - October 10

Stop by to see a new exhibit that will explore the encampment that took place at Pennypacker Mills during the Revolutionary War. At this location, Washington organized his army for the Battle of Germantown and then retreated back to their old camp which includes the famous story of George Washington returning General Howe’s dog. The exhibit will show artifacts found on the property including an actual order from General Washington and include many of the human interest stories that took place. The exhibit will be in the bedroom where the owner of the property brought Washington a bowl of water each morning to wash with. This exhibit is included on all tours of the mansion.
