“War Comes to the Mills”

Stop by to see a new exhibit that will explore the encampment that took place at Pennypacker Mills during the Revolutionary War. At this location, Washington organized his army for the Battle of Germantown and then retreated back to their old camp which includes the famous story of George Washington returning General Howe’s dog. The exhibit will show artifacts found on the property including an actual order from General Washington and include many of the human interest stories that took place. The exhibit will be in the bedroom where the owner of the property brought Washington a bowl of water each morning to wash with. This exhibit is included on all tours of the mansion.
All ages; free; suggested donation $2 per person.
Pennypacker Mills is the home of Pennsylvania Governor Samuel W. Pennypacker (1903-1907) and his family. Set on 170-acres of bucolic farmland, the mansion is completely furnished and houses an extensive collection of official and personal artifacts of the Pennypacker family.
Operated by the County of Montgomery, the site is open year-round for guided tours, seasonal events, educational programs, changing exhibits, and special programs.
Closed Mondays, County Holidays, Independence Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day & Eve and New Year’s Eve & Day. Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm; & Sunday, 1 to 4 pm.
